Scaling RCRA and EPCRA compliance with automation and expertise

Tesla worked with Encamp on a six-month pilot at 10 sites to modernize hazardous waste (RCRA) and chemical reporting (EPCRA, Tier II, HMBP). The pilot confirmed what leaders feared — manual, spread-out processes were slow, error-prone, and risky.

Encamp helped Tesla’s teams save time, reduce risk, and improve accuracy at some of their most complex facilities. The pilot showed this approach can work across the whole company.

With less risk and more time back, Tesla’s EHS teams can focus on innovation and growth — while staying compliant every day.

By the numbers

Operational Efficiency

During the pilot, Encamp automated generator status reviews, manifest reconciliation, and data standardization — tasks that used to take dozens of manual hours. Each site saved 6–8 hours per month on generator tracking and 18–25 hours on data collection and reconciliation. Rolled out across all U.S. facilities, that adds up to nearly 4,000 hours a year — almost two full-time employees’ worth of time.

Financial Protection

Encamp’s oversight stopped costly violations before they happened. Generator misclassifications at sites in Washington and Kansas — which could have triggered fines of $37,500 per day — were caught early. Manifest errors, like missing EPA IDs, were corrected before they could cause enforcement. Tesla also avoided late fees and interest by using the centralized invoicing processes recommended during the pilot.

Risk Mitigation

The six-month pilot found risks that could have hurt Tesla’s audit readiness. Encamp helped assign the right site managers in RCRAInfo, fix waste code errors, and standardize chemical reporting in California and Washington. These steps lowered the chance of enforcement and kept Tesla’s compliance records accurate and ready for inspection.

Why does it matter?

For Tesla, compliance isn’t just about avoiding fines — it’s about protecting their brand, meeting ESG goals, and keeping operations running smoothly. By cutting inefficiencies and lowering risk, Encamp lets skilled EHS staff focus on safety and innovation instead of repetitive admin tasks. With audit-ready workflows built in, Tesla can grow quickly while staying fully compliant.
